you pray you pray you’re not alone your soul needs sunlight, hey you pray, you cut your arm. the blood! (you assume that i would leave you behind) I ———- I —- this soul, you are my own; to know. this soul, you carve your arm; to know my blood ~ drowning, i’m too far from the shore barely alive to embrace the light for you. (you pray you’re not alone) i’m hanging on to holding on. (your soul needs sunlight)

(you) had to know you’d lose your mind (the) last to show, first to fight left alone (to) tour your mind had to know what i’d find ~ i lay down - HIGH broke in two - EYE ~ (the) path below - realigned mine to grow ~they say this on high~ please be slow, death defy / breath defined now you know ~soon it will be you~ ~ i lay down - HIGH broke in two - EYE eyes break through - FLY i made you - MINE ~ where do we go from here? to my home? i’ve been turned ‘round might fall over where do we go? far to my home? i been turned round, i been too low where did we go wrong, i been too long i’ve been turned away where is my way? ~ i lay down - HIGH broke in two - EYE eyes break through - FLY i made you - MINE
3.
it’s too late to lose your mind it’s the path i will choose tonight. you say i’m too grown, i know. the way i’m supposed to show… ~ the way, the light that finds - your way goodbye to zion ~ it’s the way i misuse the vine it’s the heart i will choose (to) divide you find your soul decided to lose the way i will lose my mind ~ the way, the light that finds - your way goodbye to zion - ~ hide away and i will find you, either way it ends in fire.
4.
you die, you wait to know (the) divine you wind your way throughout your mind angels betray below the fire ~this is not the way! i don’t mind ~this is not the way but i’m to wait! you and i, we can divide you and i became divine you deny with your own eye soon divine, we can live on high down below
5.
the question 02:50
you say “don’t lose your mind” what’s left to spare? cut out what’s dead inside and leave me here. (you) say you won’t deny, would that be fair? say you won’t tonight and i will be… alone, you wait and hide, out of despair. alone you wait inside. will i be there? ~ what do you want to know? ~ a ghost who walks inside forever be damned. this place your soul resides, inside we stand the dark you can deny, but i am still here. your hand it clenches mine, at me you stare. ~ where do you want to go?

about

‘songs from the giant’s chair’ was born out of the same frustration and anger that a lot of us felt in 2020/2021. i had been prepping a completely different batch of songs for a second full-length album, but in early 2021, upon writing what became the first track, ‘sincerely, paul’ (a song about talking to god while drowning), i decided to move in a new direction.

i scrapped that album and followed my heart on a new path. the rest of the EP was written and recorded throughout the ensuing months of 2021 as i looked inward and dove headfirst into my anxiety and fears about the place i had found my life in the falsetto of ‘ambien(t)’, to taking an honest look at the depths i felt my soul had sunk but still looking for the light in the combo of ‘when giants slumber’ and ‘the giant’s awake’, to coming out the other side with the closing ballad sung at the gates of hell, ‘the question’.

once i was done recording, i knew after so long spent with these songs that i needed someone who understood me as a person and musician to really bring them home; enter Sam Hoskins. a brilliant musician and producer in his own right, i knew he was the right person to mix the EP.
